U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-5) will headline a rally for Mussab Ali’s campaign for Jersey City mayor tomorrow afternoon, his campaign announced.

“I’m honored to welcome Rep. Ilhan Omar to Jersey City as we rally for working families. Jersey City’s working communities are facing rising costs, daily struggles to make ends meet, and a Trump administration bent on undermining them at every turn,” Ali said in a statement.
The rally will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a press conference at 2 p.m. The scenario didn’t arise out of the blue: Omar endorsed Ali for mayor back in May, as HCV first reported.
“Across this country, families are under attack by an authoritarian administration. We won’t be silent. I’m proud to stand up with Jersey City, Mussab Ali, and the immigrant and working-class communities that make our country great,” Omar added.
The race to succeed Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, who ran for governor instead of seeking a fourth term, has seven candidates on the nonpartisan November 4th ballot.
Former Gov. Jim McGreevey, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), Council President Joyce Watterman, Ward E Councilman James Solomon, Police Officer Christina Freeman, and Kalki Jayne-Rose are the other mayoral hopefuls.
