It may still feel like summer for the next month, but San Antonio is brimming with ways to get into the spooky season spirit.

Every night at 7 p.m., the train at Six Flags Fiesta Texas rolls in behind a cloud of smoke, unleashing creepy clowns, haunting ghosts and other creatures that lurk among parkgoers in scare zones.

It’s all a part of Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ annual Fright Fest, an event that transforms the entire theme park into a Halloween celebration.

“We begin planning as soon as the previous Fright Fest is over so it’s truly a year in the making,” said Jeffery Siebert, regional general manager for all the Six Flags parks in Texas. “We always take our guest feedback and research and want to make the next year the biggest and best that we’ve ever done. … [This year is] the biggest, largest Fright Fest that we’ve ever done in our parks history.”

Fright Fest has several Halloween-themed performances, six scare zones and six haunted mazes, four of which are new. Some of the mazes are based on horror movies such as “Saw,” “Nosferatu,” and “The Conjuring.”

“If you’re a fan of horror movies, truly Fright Fest is becoming one stop shopping for all the love and passion that we have for scaring people and Halloween specifically,” Siebert said.

The park’s Fright Fest activities, including the performances, haunted mazes and scare zones are recommended for parkgoers 13 and up.

During the daytime, “it’s all fun, no fear” at Six Flags, with its family-friendly Tricks and Treats event. Children can get their fill of candy from the park’s Trick-or-Treat Trail and participate in a kid-friendly celebration before the sunsets.

Parkgoers can also enjoy pretzels, bratwursts and other German cuisines at the Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ Oktoberfest, running through Oct. 26.

Be sure to check the park’s calendar for operating hours.
