The home is formerly the “sanctuary” of Salas, whose designs grace Woodlawn Park and Mission San Juan Capistrano and include the impressive doors at the Lucchese Boot Company in the Quarry, according to a profile in the Current. He even created the flagpole at the Bexar County Courthouse.

Salas’ father, also an architect, was similarly renowned for his designs, which included a table and throne created for Pope John Paul II when he delivered his record-setting mass to a crowd of 350,000 in San Antonio.

The younger Salas’ nine-bedroom, nine-and-a-half bath home features a wide-open floor plan on its first floor, where a breezy living area with soaring ceilings flows seamlessly into an updated kitchen. Finishes throughout the home are somehow both high-end and humble, favoring timeless craftsmanship over trends — a common theme in Salas’ work.

The listing also notes that the barndominium, climate-controlled events space and history of successful fruit harvests on the property would also make it ideal for a winery.
