Manchester United fans subjected former winger Alejandro Garnacho to a brutal chant upon his return to Old Trafford with Chelsea.

Ruben Amorim’s side picked up what could be a crucially important win against Chelsea, beating the West London outfit 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The game was thrown into disarray for the Blues when, after just five minutes, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was dismissed for a rash tackle on Bryan Mbeumo. The dismissal opened the game up for Man United who, through Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, gave themselves a two-goal lead.

Casemiro was ultimately sent off before the half-time break after picking up two yellow cards, offering Chelsea a potential route back into the game. Trevoh Chalobah halved the deficit, but his goal ultimately came too late as the Blues succumbed to a defeat.

Enzo Maresca, responding to his goalkeeper being given his marching orders, made two substitutions, making a further change just minutes later when he brought Cole Palmer, who has been battling a groin injury, off the pitch.

Despite this, there was no time on the pitch for Alejandro Garnacho, who joined the Blues from Man United in the transfer window’s closing stages. Upon his return to Old Trafford, Garnacho was greeted by a particularly savage chant from the Man United faithful.

‘He Won’t Be Winning Trophies Anymore’

Garnacho for Chelsea

During the first half, supporters of the Red Devils broke out with a rendition of a chant that has not been sung in well over a decade.

“Who’s that t*** from Argentina? Who’s that money-grabbing w****? Garnacho is his name and he hasn’t got a brain and he won’t be winning trophies anymore!”

The chant was, originally, created in reference to Carlos Tevez who, in 2009, departed the club for arch-rivals Manchester City. Following the move, Man United fans put together the chant as a way to target their former forward.

Now, it would seem that the Man United faithful have chosen to rebrand that chant for Garnacho, the Argentina international having spent time in the club’s youth academy before making his senior footballing debut and ultimately departing Old Trafford.

Amorim was seemingly okay with, perhaps even pushing for, Garnacho’s departure, but that has evidently done little to change fan perception of the 21-year-old.
