The man, believed in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Madison said.
The man was riding a skateboard southbound in the center of the road when he was struck by the northbound police vehicle that was also moving in the center of the road with its red light and siren engaged on the way to a call, police officials said. The police vehicle was passing traffic at the time.
A carnival was underway in the park at the time and was shut down early after the crash, according to ABC7.
