The ocean is home to many mysteries, some of which can evoke both awe and fear in those who dare to explore its depths. Sharks, known for their elusive nature, are one of the most feared creatures in the water. Recently, diver Gabe Hall shared a spine-chilling video, captured by his GoPro, from beneath a pier in Florida known for its shark sightings.
The footage, initially shared by Ladbible, provides a rare and unsettling look at marine life below one of the Gulf Coast’s most shark-infested locations. The video not only highlights the diversity of ocean creatures but also the looming presence of dangerous predators.
A Dive into the Shark-Infested Waters of Pensacola Beach
Pensacola Beach, located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, on the barrier island of Santa Rosa, is infamous for its shark sightings. In a gripping YouTube video, diver Gabe Hall captured footage after dropping his GoPro into the water beneath the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier. The results were both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
Almost immediately, Hall’s camera revealed a thriving world beneath the surface, with schools of bait fish and the occasional sea turtle. But the video quickly took a much more sinister turn when a massive shadow loomed in the background, sending a shiver down the spine of anyone watching.
A Shadow in the Deep: Encounter with a Tiger Shark
As Gabe reviewed the GoPro footage, he spotted a dark shape moving in the distance. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed to be a tiger shark — one of the most dangerous sharks in the ocean. The camera captures the immense size of the shark as it swims past, revealing its distinctive striped markings, which give it the name “tiger shark.”
While it was clear that the creature was a tiger shark, Gabe explained that it’s hard to get a precise identification from a distance:
When people come to Florida, they always ask, ‘Is there a lot of sharks out there?’ Yes, there are a lot of sharks out there, for sure.
The tiger shark is the second deadliest shark species in the world, right behind the great white. Gabe paused the footage to highlight the shark’s stripes, showing how they earned their name. Seeing this powerful predator swim past the GoPro provides a haunting reminder of the dangers lurking beneath the waves.
A Friendly Visit from a Nurse Shark
Despite the terrifying sighting of the tiger shark, not all of Gabe’s underwater encounters were so intimidating. In fact, one of the sharks he spotted was a nurse shark, a species known for its docile nature. Gabe mentioned that he encounters nurse sharks regularly during his dives in Florida.
This one is a pretty good size, like a good 6ft from head to tail – Gabe explained.
They’re pretty laid-back sharks, like I’ve never had one advance at me.
Nurse sharks are generally peaceful and tend to be more curious than aggressive. Gabe elaborated, saying,
And that’s just the honest truth with sharks in general, they’re really just curious, but these are probably some of the friendliest sharks.
Despite their more approachable nature, even nurse sharks have their moments of curiosity, as Gabe recalled a time when one came close to “check him out” in the Florida Keys. But he reassured viewers that it was simply out of curiosity, not aggression.
The Ocean’s Hidden Dangers: A Close-Up Look at the Tiger Shark
The real star of the footage, however, was the tiger shark. Gabe’s GoPro captured the shark swimming right past the camera, allowing viewers to appreciate its size and power up close. The sheer scale of the creature is a reminder of how much the ocean still holds in terms of mystery and danger.

After the camera zoomed in on the tiger shark’s distinctive stripes, Gabe noted that these markings are a key identifying feature of the species. Known as the second deadliest shark in the world, the tiger shark’s fearsome reputation is well-deserved.
Despite the risk, sharks like these continue to draw fascination — though it’s probably best to admire them from the safety of the shore.
