1. 4 Marcy COs plead guilty, 4 reject plea deals in Robert Brooks’ death

The eight COs appeared in Oneida County Court to face charges stemming from their roles in the Dec. 9, 2024, beating death of Brooks, an inmate at Marcy Correctional. The act was caught on body-worn cameras and triggered widespread outrage and calls for justice across New York state.

2. Syracuse QB Steve Angeli out for season with Achilles injury

The Syracuse Orange will be without quarterback Steve Angeli for the remainder of the season. Head coach Fran Brown announced Monday that Angeli suffered an Achilles injury during Saturday’s win over Clemson. Brown said Angeli was undergoing surgery on Monday.

3. Cayuga Nation suit against State Liquor Authority claims discrimination

Nation leaders filed the lawsuit last week, arguing that the liquor authority’s refusal to issue a license to Lakeside Enterprises — located on federally recognized tribal land — is both unlawful and discriminatory. The Nation says it followed every legal step.

4. Seneca Falls improving its downtown with $10 million grant

Downtown Revitalization Initiative money has slowly been distributed across New York, at $10 million per community. One of those communities is Seneca Falls. It’s using its DRI grant to renovate and build spaces like a kayak launch, a public park and a sculpture trail.

5. Trump nominates White House aide to be top U.S. prosecutor for office probing Letitia James

President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would be nominating senior White House aide Lindsey Halligan to serve as the top federal prosecutor for the Virginia office that was thrown into turmoil when its U.S. attorney was pushed out Friday.

6. ABC ends Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, and his show will return Tuesday

ABC will reinstate Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show in the wake of criticism over his comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, officials with the network said Monday. Kimmel has hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC since 2003 and has been a fixture in television and comedy for even longer. He is also well known as a presenter, having hosted the Academy Awards four times.

    Diane Avery, who was a Coast Guard reservist and medical specialist deployed overseas during Operation Desert Storm, was one of five women on Honor Flight Syracuse’s 23rd mission. She recalled her own experiences and honored those around her who served in Desert Storm and other wars.
