Copperas Cove ISD said the Board approved the purchase of new computers, multiple new vehicles, new network switches and access points and two Dell servers.
COPPERAS COVE, Texas — The Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees has approved the purchase of more than 1,400 new computers to serve both students and staff, as well as various other purchases throughout the district.
Copperas Cove ISD said 113 of the computers will be for staff and 1,300 are for new student devices to replace outdated computers.
The purchase of the computers was approved alongside the purchase of Lightspeed Software, which allows teachers to control technology use in their classrooms, the district said. The Board also reportedly approved two Dell servers and the necessary accessories to go with them.
“Technology is vital in modern education and our current technology infrastructure doesn’t meet the current demands for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “While these purchases won’t fix the problem in one attempt, it is a first step in the process to get our technology setup where every parent, student and employee expects it to be. This will improve performance and streamline how people use our systems, and we are confident that every Bulldawg will see that soon.”
In addition to the computers, Copperas Cove ISD said the Board approved the purchase of new switches and access points to improve network performance, as well as the purchase of six new Chevy Trax SUV’s to add to the district’s fleet, three new maintenance trucks, a cargo van and two new passenger buses.
“When we reviewed the budget ahead of this school year, we noticed that the easiest place to cut expenses without negative affect was how our staff travels to meetings or conferences,” Hawkins said. “By adding smaller vehicles to our fleet of Suburbans, we can cut the cost the district pays in these trips without missing out on the knowledge our staff gains at these events which directly benefits our students.”
