Dallas-based Integration Health today has acquired Murfreesboro, Tennessee-based ECMO Advantage, a specialized provider of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) services.
ECMO is a life-support technology that provides temporary assistance to the heart and lungs when they are unable to adequately function.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Integration Health recently launched as a new platform company that consolidates several brands, including Innovative Perfusion Concepts and Innovative ECMO Concepts, according to a report by Hospital Management.
“As ECMO and perfusion therapies continue to demonstrate their life-saving potential across an ever-growing range of clinical scenarios, we’re focused on expanding access to these critical services,” Integration Health CEO John Martin said in a statement. “By combining our efforts with ECMO Advantage’s established expertise and hospital relationships, we can deliver ECMO care to more hospitals, educate more healthcare providers, and ultimately save more lives.”
Integration Health said the newly announced strategic acquisition brings together the industry’s two foremost ECMO service providers and combines their expertise, resources, and hospital relationships under Integration Health’s unified platform. With ECMO Advantage and Innovative ECMO Concepts functioning as one organization, Integration Health said it stands as the definitive national provider of ECMO training, program development, and staffing services.
Under the acquisition, ECMO Advantage will be fully integrated into Integration Health operations, with all services, staff, and hospital contracts continuing seamlessly under the Integration Health brand.
What’s next for the combined company
Integration Health said the combined organization will serve more than 55 healthcare facilities across 22 states, providing comprehensive ECMO program development, specialized staffing, transport, and education services.
Integration Health said its enhanced portfolio after the acquisition includes:
- Specialized Clinical Staffing: Expert ECMO specialists, perfusionists, and ECMO program coordinators available for both short-term and long-term coverage
- ECMO Program Development: Complete ECMO program start-up, policies and procedures, staff training, and revenue cycle optimization
- Education and Training: Online courses, in-person simulation, bedside precepting, and continuing education programs
- ECMO Transport Services: Comprehensive air and ground transport capabilities with physician oversight
- Perfusion and NRP Services: Cardiovascular perfusion support and Normothermic Regional Perfusion services for transplant centers and organ procurement organizations
Integration Health said it will showcase its expanded capabilities and unified platform at the 36th Annual ELSO Conference, to be held Sept. 27-30 in Washington, D.C.
The company said the conference will mark the first industry appearance of Integration Health, with ECMO Advantage team members joining former Innovative ECMO Concepts team members at a unified exhibit to demonstrate the enhanced service portfolio available to healthcare partners.
The acquisition positions Integration Health for continued growth in the rapidly expanding ECMO services market, as the field of ECMO continues to grow with increasing recognition of its clinical benefits and expanding applications, the company said.. By maintaining a deep bench of specialists and providing guaranteed availability within 24 hours of patient cannulation, Integration Health said it ensures hospitals can offer ECMO therapy with confidence, “regardless of their internal staffing capacity or case volume.”
