The scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not take place on Tuesday, according to government sources.

The meeting had been planned to take place at the Turkish House in New York.

It was postponed at the request of the Turkish side due to Erdogan’s participation in a meeting of leaders of Arab and Muslim countries in New York, organized by US President Donald Trump.

The same sources noted that efforts are underway to find another available time slot for the meeting in the coming days in New York.

Mitsotakis and Erdogan are both in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Its General Debate, to feature speeches by heads of state and government, is scheduled for September 23 to 29.

The Greek prime minister is scheduled to deliver his speech on Friday.
