A committee Tuesday voted unanimously to advance the nomination of Todd Bouey as general manager overseeing the retirement system for Los Angeles city workers.

The Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration approved Mayor Karen Bass’ nominee, who will next face the City Council’s Personnel and Hiring Committee. If approved as expected, the nomination would then come before the full City Council for a final vote.

As general manager of LACERS, one of the city government’s most important financial institutions, Bouey would hold fiduciary responsibility for a $26 billion pension fund. He would also be tasked with helping assure the city government’s long-term stability, and recruitment and retention of municipal employees.

“I’m eager to continue LACERS’ modernization efforts and deliver financial security our dedicated city workforce deserves through upholding the highest standards of fiduciary responsibility and public accountability,” Bouey said in a statement.

Bouey has been the interim general manager since December after previously serving as assistant general manager. He initiated key modernization efforts such as digitizing services.

“The LACERS general manager is key in our work to ensure overall stability of the city by protecting the financial security of our city workforce’s pensions,” Bass said in a statement.

“I trust that Todd Bouey can build upon his work as interim general manager, continuing LACERS’ position as a trusted and accountable financial institution that is ready to meet the needs of our city workforce now and in the future.”

Bouey has worked with the city for 20 years in various positions with the Office of Finance, the Controller’s Office and the Office of the City Administrative Officer . He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Davis and a master’s degree of public administration from the University of Southern California.
