LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Ryder Dodd of UCLA Men’s Water Polo has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week presented by La Victoria for competitions held between Sept. 16-22.
The Bruin attacker led UCLA to a 4-0 record and a three-peat title at the Overnght MPSF Invitational (Sept. 19-21), co-hosted by UCLA and USC.
The Bruins improved to 14-0 overall on the year with Dodd scoring 13 goals, while tallying five assists, five steals, drawing four exclusions, winning three sprints, and making two saves. The Bruins opened with a 25-6 win over Redlands (Sept. 19) with Dodd scoring twice to go with one assist, one sprint won, and making two saves (on failed 7-on-6 plays while wearing the goalie cap). Then in the 19-12 quarterfinal win over No. 11 UC Davis (Sept. 20), he scored four goals on five shots and added three assists, one steal, and drew one exclusion in the win over the Aggies. In the 13-12 come-from-behind win over No. 4 Stanford (Sept. 20) in the semifinals, he scored twice and tallied one assist, had three steals, drew two exclusions, and won a sprint in a battle of undefeated teams. He then scored a season-high-tying five goals (on eight shots) and drew one exclusion and won his only sprint in the 11-9 win over No. 3 California in the championship game in another battle of undefeated teams. He was credited with the eventual game-winning goals against UC Davis and California.
Dodd has scored in all 45 games he has played in his career and has scored multiple goals in 43 of those contests.
He secures his fourth-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award.
