The monkey that was on the loose in Iredell County was found, but not in a way many would expect.

The Capuchin monkey that escaped from Zootastic Park was hit by a car Tuesday in the Troutman area, Iredell County officials confirmed.

WCNC reported that the animal was still alive when it was returned to its owner. The county has not provided an update on the monkey’s condition as of Wednesday morning. 

Exactly one week ago, officials with the county’s animal services said in a post on Facebook that the  Capuchin was on the loose in the Troutman area of Iredell County. Pictures showed a monkey climbing utility poles.
