The Los Angeles Sparks will open a state-of-the-art training facility in El Segundo in time for the 2027 WNBA season, the team announced on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
It’ll be a $150 million, 55,000 square-foot practice space in the South Bay city, a first-of-its-kind investment for a women’s sports team, according to the Sparks.
“We’re building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court,” Eric Holoman, managing partner and governor of the Los Angeles Sparks, said in a press release. “From cutting-edge training and recovery spaces to family and community areas, every corner of this facility was designed with them at the center. It reflects our commitment to our team, our fans and the city of Los Angeles, and sets a new standard for what a professional sports organization can provide for its athletes.”

When the facility is built, El Segundo will be the only city in the nation that’s home to five professional sports teams, according to a press release from El Segundo, including football, men’s basketball, rugby and women’s basketball.
“We’re thrilled that the WNBA’s marquee franchise, the LA Sparks, is building its new state-of-the-art headquarters and training facility here,” El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel said in the city’s release. “This facility will set a new standard in the league, reflecting the Sparks’ commitment to excellence on and off the court and reinforcing El Segundo’s status as a premier destination for professional sports.”
The new facility will be complete with the WNBA’s first indoor-outdoor player sanctuary, which will feature an outdoor spa pool for recovery and pre-hab/rehab. It’ll also have:
- Dedicated nap rooms.
- Quiet wellness spaces for yoga and meditation.
- Hydrotherapy and spa suites.
- Two WNBA regulation basketball courts.
- A circular locker room designed to foster team unity.
- State-of-the-art weight room and training spaces with nagtural light to promote energy and recovery.
- Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby mountains.
Transwestern’s Sports & Entertainment Group is the development manager and owner representative for the project, according to the release.
Women-run commercial design firm Studio Blitz, a company known for creating community-oriented spaces that celebrate the power of women, designed the facility’s interior, the release said,
The facility, which will be in the heart of El Segundo, will reinforce the Sparks’ role as a cornerstone of LA’s professional sports landscape, the team said.
The Los Angeles Sparks’ training facility is more than a home base for athletes, the team’s release said, but also a statement of intent about the future of the WNBA in Los Angeles. Designed as a year-round home away from home, it reflects the franchise’s mission to invest deeply in its players while cementing its place in LA’s vibrant sports culture.
