1. Shooter, 2 detainees dead, 1 critically injured after shooting at ICE facility in Dallas
A shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas Wednesday morning has left the shooter and two other people dead and another person critically injured, according to officials.
The Dallas Police Department said that officers were called to the area at around 6:40 a.m. after a person opened fired at a “government building” from another building. The sniper fired “indiscriminately” at the ICE building, including at a van where the victims were shot.
The shot that killed Charlie Kirk on a Utah college campus was felt among Texas Republicans who are clamping down on free speech in the wake of Kirk’s death.
State Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, chairs a new legislative committee on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education, created to honor Kirk.
3. OpenAI and Oracle show off Stargate AI data center in Texas and plan 5 more elsewhere
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced Tuesday that the company’s flagship artificial AI data center in Abilene will be joined by five others around the U.S. as the ChatGPT maker aims to make good on the $500 billion infrastructure investment promoted by President Donald Trump earlier this year. Meanwhile, residents have mixed feelings about the project due to its water and energy effects.

Rangers eliminated from playoff chase with 8th straight loss, 4-1 to the Twins
The Texas Rangers lost their eighth game in a row and were eliminated from the playoff chase after a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.
The Rangers (79-78) were within two games of the AL West lead on Sept. 13 and in the thick of the wild-card chase after a 13-3 span with a pair of six-game winning streaks. They haven’t won since and dropped to 5 1/2 games behind Houston for the American League’s final playoff spot with five games left.
