The LA Metro has added four new stops to the A Line, extending its services to Pomona in the San Gabriel Valley for the first time in decades.

As part of the Foothill Gold Line Extension project, the metro has added stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex and Pomona North. The extension officially opened on Sept. 19, and a celebration was held at the Pomona station on Sept. 19, bringing locals and LA Metro officials together to commemorate the extension. The 9.1 mile extension cost $1.5 billion, and was funded by state grants alongside Measures R and M.

With the extension, the A Line is now 57.6 miles and has 48 stations, making it the longest running light rail line in the world. It starts at Long Beach, traveling upwards to Union Station and through Pasadena. The new extension gives those in the San Gabriel Valley a direct way into the heart of LA while providing Angelinos a chance to explore parts of Southern California that could have otherwise been largely inaccessible.

The extension improves public transit access to 19 colleges and universities, including Cal Poly Pomona and the University of La Verne, Bonelli Regional Park and the Pomona Fairplex.

According to LA Metro, the trains will run every eight minutes during weekday peak hours, every 10 minutes during daytime weekend and peak weekday hours and every 20 minutes during late evenings and overnight. The train service is from 4 a.m. to midnight, and rides start at $1.75. The travel times from the new stations to Union Station are approximately:

• Glendora: 52 minutes

• San Dimas: 58 minutes

• La Verne/Fairplex: 62 minutes

• Pomona: 64 minutes

The opening of the A Line Extension is the ninth project completed that is part of Metro’s 28 by 28 Initiative to enhance our region’s transit infrastructure for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Fairplex — next to La Verne Station — is hosting Cricket in 2028 while the A Line will be busy during the Games with service to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for soccer and diving at the adjacent aquatics center, several venues in downtown L.A. (including gymnastics at Crypto.com Arena) and a variety of events along the Long Beach waterfront.
