Collin Morikawa is well in the mix to win the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club and he’s been speaking openly about the fans out on course at the event.

Morikawa is four off the leaders going into the final day and will need another big round to catch up with Aldrich Potgieter at the summit.

Morikawa admitted to being impressed by Potgieter but he’ll also know that he has the game to reel in the youngster if he puts it all together.

Of course, Morikawa has played in Detroit before and finished second, meaning his experience should serve him well.

Indeed, when it comes to the support he’s getting from those in the city, Morikawa couldn’t speak highly enough of those loyal fans.

Collin Morikawa desperately needs a win and he won’t find himself in too many better positions for the rest of 2025.

Yes, he is four back but in modern golf, that can quickly swing and change.

Now, with that first win in sight, Morikawa is hoping to use the strength of the support to help him over the line.

“It’s a lot of fun. The crowds mean the world and they bring so much energy,” Morikawa admitted.

“So like when I’m making the turn, when you’re on 9, even early on when you’re on 2, 3, 4, they were there, and it just pushes me a little bit more to want to play well and to make a few more birdies, and when you make those putts for birdie, like after I made bogey on 15, you go to 16, make birdie, like it brings the energy and hopefully we can bring that into tomorrow.”

Morikawa needs a fast start to catch the brilliant Potgieter

Morikawa is playing well and it’s good to see he’s got the fans onside and is actually recognising that as well.

However, he is going to need his very best game and a bit of luck if he’s to chase down the brilliant Aldrich Potgieter at the top of that leaderboard.

The 20-year-old looks firmly in control and while mistakes could creep in, he’s also capable of pulling away if he starts well.

Morikawa will need to make some early birdies to put the pressure on before Potgieter goes out. If he can do that, then he might just have enough in the tank to reel the South African in.
