The first Saturday of fall always possesses a bit of magic, the sense that possibilities are boundless, enchantment is real, and, if you look, you can find a nostalgic fair, the kind that might have appeared in a long-ago novel celebrating the pleasures of autumn.
The Autry Museum of the American West is always a place of enchantment, thanks to its array of educational exhibits, entertaining film screenings, and outdoor dance events that swing through summer.
But on the first Saturday of fall 2025, the Griffith Park museum will jump into that seasonal joy with rides, activities, and a kind focus, all wrapped into one.
It’s the museum’s Annual Block Party, and it is popping up just outside the West-focused institution over several hours, beginning at 10 o’clock.
First responders are in the celebratory spotlight, and if you are one, you’ll get in free (just be sure to bring identification). Active military and veterans can also enjoy complimentary admission.
The museum is honoring “… local heroes and community members who came to the aid of those in need during the fires and continue to support the community to this day.”
“Now more than ever, the Autry is committed to supporting our community during this and future rebuilding phases, serving as a place of respite and celebration for the arts, history, and culture of our beloved city and region,” shares the Autry on its site.
Horse-grooming workshops (and chances to snap pictures of the ponies), a deeper look at the beautiful art of plein air painting, a classic car show, and a mechanical bull are just some of the diversions of the spunky to-do.
Some of the Block Party’s offerings will boast that quintessential fair feel, while other happenings will draw inspiration specifically from the museum. And everything will take place in the spirit of community, gratitude, and goodwill.
Tickets are available for purchase on the site, so giddy up and get yours now.
