Firefighters quickly extinguished a brush fire on a Clairemont hillside Sunday morning.

The fire ignited about 11:40 a.m. on a slope off Genesee Avenue near Mount Alifan Drive, adjacent to High Tech High Mesa school.

Fire crews sprayed water up the embankment to extinguish the blaze, which burned brush covering an area about 20 feet by 50 feet, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.

The fire occurred just five days after some Clairemont residents were forced to evacuate after a brush fire in Tecolote Canyon threatened homes. The Ariane fire ignited near Mount Ariane Drive, just east of Cowley Way on Tuesday night. No structures were damaged.

The cause of that fire was under investigation, a fire department spokesperson said last week.
