High school sports are back in action, and while we’re excited to see area students compete, we’re even more proud to spotlight those making a difference both on and off the field.

This week, we’re highlighting two outstanding Beluga Air Scholar Athletes:

Xander Hayes – Wagner High School Xander is more than just a talented athlete, he’s a leader and a role model. As team captain of the Wagner baseball team, he takes pride in keeping his teammates united. Off the field, Xander is a passionate chef and a dedicated brother. His experience helping care for his brother with autism has shaped his compassion and leadership, both at home and in school.

Darryl Copeland – MacArthur High School Darryl’s drive and discipline are unmatched. He’s a multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track and field. Academically, he’s never received a grade lower than an A, and he’s committed to maintaining that standard. Inspired by his mother’s athleticism and dedication. Darryl also teaches sign language to connect with more people in his community, showing that his heart is just as strong as his hustle.

These young men represent the best of what it means to be a student athlete, dedicated, driven, and deeply connected to their communities.
