Los Angeles Comic Con: We’re in the thick of Wear a Costume Season, which is maybe the best and most creative season, but for people devoted to amazing cosplay looks, it is always time to go the dazzling distance. Dress up and dazzle at this three-day pop culture extravaganza, one that will include comic vendors, major star sightings, info-fun panels, and all sorts of opportunities to show off your superheroic (or villainous) ensemble. Wing for LA Convention Center Sept. 26-28.
The Autry’s Annual Block Party: This remarkable repository of Western heritage always has plenty of delightful diversions and ways to engage, but if you’re seeking a spunky and sunny fair with activities (yay, horse grooming) and ways to honor first responders, you’ll want to make for the Griffith Park-based museum Sept. 27. It’s ticketed, so read up; if you’re a first responder with identification, you’ll enjoy free entry. Kids 12 and under get free admission, too.
Fall Harvest Festival opens: This is a world that doesn’t have quite the high level of the intense homespun fun that we’re seeking, but Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark makes up for the general lack in wholesome activities each fall when this festival kicks off. There are themed weekends, devoted to vintage tractors and the Wild West, and getting ticket info before you go, especially on a busy weekend, is a must. Get pump(kin)-ed up starting Sept. 27.
The Other Art Fair: The act of experiencing art is rarely staid and yawn-inducing; rather, offbeat moments, exciting emotions, and other unexpected sensations are key. This weekend-big art-tactular is known for the “bizarre” and beautiful, and it is back at Barker Hangar from Sept. 26-28. Over 150 indie artists will be there, along with DJs, sips for sale, and more; will you find the painting/sculpture of your weird/wonderful dreams?
Montana Avenue Art Walk: If we were tasked with writing ten love letters to ten Southern California streets, Montana Avenue would definitely receive an envelope covered in hearts. It’s a lively lane every day of the year, thanks to all of those shops, eateries, and the amazing Aero Theatre, but that lively vibe will grow Sept. 27 when dozens of artists pop by for a fall festivity. Entry is free but if you’d like to swing by the Bottled Wine Poetry Garden, you’ll want to secure your $20 ticket soon.
