John Travolta is tapping into our nostalgia. The actor, 71, made a surprise appearance at Friday’s “Grease” sing-a-long at the Hollywood Bowl dressed as his iconic bad boy Danny Zuko from the 1978 film.

Travolta is the one that we wanted but didn’t see coming as a guest at the Los Angeles event. He posted a photo on Instagram looking older but still dapper, sporting grey hair and his signature leather jacket. In the video of his appearance, Travolta revealed, “No one knew. Not even the cast. Thank you for a great evening.”

The actor was joined by fellow ‘Grease’ castmates Barry Pearl, Michael Tucci, Kelly Ward, Didi Conn, and director Randal Kleiser. It’s clear from their jaw-dropping reactions that they were stunned as much as the audience, who erupted when Travolta took the stage.

Before kicking off a sing-along, Travolta kicked things off singing in unison with the crowd, “a-womp-bop-a-looma a-womp-bam-boom.”

Shortly after, the beloved actor spoke on the mic, addressing fans in the crowd. “L.A., I thought you were going back to Australia? That’s cool, that’s cool, baby. You know, riding and rollin’ and whatnot.”

Back in 2019, Travolta and his co-star Olivia Newton-John reunited to dress up and sing-along with fans of the film. They announced on Instagram that they would be hosting three special screenings of their hit movie musical, along with a Q&A afterward. Newton-John, who played Sandy, died from breast cancer at age 73 in August 2022.
