From the report:
Officials with the California Highway Patrol said Jones was struck by the driver of a Toyota RAV4 on the eastbound lanes of the 90 Freeway, near the Centinela Avenue off-ramp, around 2 a.m. Sunday, June 22.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jones grew up in LA and was a standout at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance. He then went on to play college football at San Jose State. The Montreal Alouettes released a statement.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of former assistant defensive backs coach Chandler Jones. He was a passionate and dedicated coach whose professionalism and commitment left a lasting impression on the organization,” they said.
San Jose State did, too.
“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of alum, Chandler Jones ‘09. Jones was a standout player on Bishop’s football team and still holds the record for longest kick-off return (97 yards) and longest fumble recovery (98 yards),” the school said.
Our thoughts are with the friends and family members of the victim.
