The inaugural North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list debuted last night at a ceremony at the Wynn in Las Vegas, where three Los Angeles restaurants made the cut. Taiwanese testing menu restaurant Kato (26), Mercado La Paloma Mexican seafood specialist Holbox (42), and Michael Cimarusti’s acclaimed Providence (47) each received a spot on the prestigious list alongside restaurants from the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean; New York Korean tasting menu restaurant Atomix took the top spot, coming in at number one.
The North America list is the latest expansion for the World’s 50 Best, which maintains separate lists for Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The organization also publishes an annual list of the World’s 50 Best Bars. The World’s 50 Best 2025 list was announced in June; Atomix (12) scored the highest-ranked North American restaurant. Los Angeles was not represented on the list.
Before the North America’s 50 Best ceremony kicked off, chefs and other hospitality professionals gathered on the red carpet for photos and interviews. Those whose restaurants were named to the list wore red scarves, branded with the World’s 50 Best logo. The evening was a bit of a Michelin reunion — Kato and Holbox both retained their stars at the 2025 Michelin ceremony, while Providence received a coveted three stars.
The new North America list gives the World’s 50 Best the overdue opportunity to spotlight a wider breadth of cuisines from across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean, which are often underrepresented on the global list.
