PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The severe monsoon thunderstorms that brought travel chaos to the Phoenix area are also impacting scheduled sporting events on Friday.
The high school football game between ALA West Foothills and Arcadia High School was called off around 3:30 p.m. Dozens of other high school football games scheduled for the Valley are still set to start at 7 p.m.
Over at Arizona State University, their football team is set to take on TCU on national television. While Sparky’s Tailgate, hosted by ASU Alumni, was canceled, the kickoff is still set for 6 p.m.
Fans planning to attend the tailgate event ahead of ASU’s big game will have to change their plans due to storms in the valley.
Heavy rain, hail and lightning have been seen across the Valley on Friday, with the severe storms starting in the morning. No major damage has been reported, but freeways were partially flooded and the storms made Phoenix Sky Harbor the most delayed airport in the world.
