Police are looking for a driver wanted in a hit-and-run crash that injured a 4-year-old boy in Southwest Philadelphia.

It happened right outside of a day care center at 64th Street and Elmwood Avenue after 3 p.m., police said.

The day care director said the boy, an active student at the day care, was hit by a car right after he was picked up on Friday afternoon.

“The student that was hit is an active student here; they’re currently enrolled,” said Elijah Sterling, the facility director. “The parent came and checked them out. As they were exiting the facility, the child was hit.”

The boy is expected to recover.

“Personally, I feel grotesque. It’s like it’s my child,” said Sterling. “I think we all have loved ones and little ones that we hold dear to us.”

“Anytime something like this happens, it can feel like a personal travesty,” Sterling continued. “My staff heard it. The mood changed in 2.5 seconds and it went from happy-go-lucky day care to….it just turned very, very fast.”

The day care director said they will be having their own investigation.

“We’re actually doing our own investigation where we want to screen cameras, we want to do an incident report and actually contact the mom to make sure that she’s OK and that everything is moving swiftly,” said Sterling.
