NOVI – A massive water main break that impacted much of the city as well as surrounding communities on Sept. 25 has been successfully isolated, but a boil water advisory will remain in effect until at least Sunday.
Much of Novi, which has about 67,000 residents, lost water pressure on Sept. 25 after the Great Lakes Water Authority experienced a break in a 42-inch transmission main line on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5.
Also impacted were Wixom, Commerce Township and Walled Lake.
Novi officials announced early on Friday, Sept. 26 that city residents should be “experiencing improved water pressure (though it may not yet be at full strength and could fluctuate due to the demand on the system, especially this morning).”However, they said the boil water advisory would continue until at least two clean water tests are received, taken 24 hours apart. Water testing will begin Friday morning and the boil water advisory will continue until at least Sunday, Sept. 28.
It is safe to shower in the water, although residents should avoid getting water in their eyes, nose and mouth.
