Police said a man in his home noticed two men breaking into his car. That’s when HPD said he opened fire, hitting one of the men.

HOUSTON — A man is recovering at a hospital after he was shot while trying to break into a car early Saturday morning, according to Houston police.

This happened around 12:30 a.m. at a home in northeast Houston on Woodlyn Road, which is in a community off Wayside Drive south of Tidwell Road.

The Houston Police Department said the homeowner was inside the house when he noticed two men trying to break into his vehicle. That’s when HPD said the homeowner walked outside and opened fire on the men, hitting one of them.

The man that was shot was taken to a hospital where he is expected to be OK.

Police said the two men are facing a burglary of a motor vehicle charge. 

They said it was determined that the homeowner was protecting his property. The homeowner is not facing charges.
