PHOENIX — An investigation is underway after a body was found near a submerged vehicle in Scottsdale on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Police responded to a call regarding a vehicle submerged in water in Vista Del Camino Park, near 77th and Roosevelt streets, at 7:40 p.m. on Friday, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

Upon arrival, police and fire officials used drones and helicopters for a water rescue, but due to murky waters no signs of life were discovered. In addition, the inside of the vehicle was fully flooded with only the trunk visible above water, police said.

Police said attempts were made to contact the man who owned the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. Family members of the man said he had not been heard from since 6:15 p.m.

A missing persons report was then filed and sent out by the Department of Public Safety.

A body was discovered outside the vehicle Saturday morning after water levels in the area went down. The body was removed from the water around 7:40 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.

On Friday, the Valley was battered with rain, hail and flooding causing a series of severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings to be issued as storm activity intensified throughout the day.
