JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KATV) — The Jacksonville Police Department has arrested a man for his role in a shooting on September 26 on charges of Capital Murder.
Around 8:17, officers responded to the area of Beverly and Caroline for a shots fired call.
Upon arrivals, officers discovered a male lying in the road suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim, later identified as Kelveontay Poole of Jacksonville, was transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
During their investigation, officers were able to contact 20-year-old Jay Longhibler of Jacksonville, who told them that he had shot the man in self-defense.
Further investigation revealed that Longhibler and Poole had agreed to exchange firearms for money and narcotics.
According to Jacksonville Police, Longhibler met with Poole and another male to conduct the transaction. During the transaction, one of the males pulled a gun and robbed him of his firearms.
When the males fled, Longhibler shot at them, and during the exchange of gunfire, Poole was struck.
Longhibler was then arrested and charged with Capital Murder.
