1. Border Patrol reports record-low migrant encounters as false ‘open border’ rumors spread online
U.S. Border Patrol officials in El Paso say migrant encounters at the Southern Border are at their lowest levels in years. But false rumors about “open borders” are rapidly spreading across social media platforms, rumors authorities say are driven by criminal organizations hoping to profit from desperate migrants.
2. National Parks Service funding cuts impact San Antonio missions
Last year, more than 1.2 million people visited Missions San José, Concecpion, San Juan and Espada.
According to the National Parks Conservation Association, traffic for the missions has increased by 16% since 2023. But financial support has seen an opposite trend, the association says.
3. 5 teenagers wounded in El Paso shooting at an apartment complex
Five teenagers were wounded in a shooting on Monday night at an apartment complex in El Paso, Texas, law enforcement said.
A group in an outdoor area within the apartment complex appeared to be about to get in a fight when a male started shooting into the crowd, said Adrian Cisneros, an officer with the El Paso Police Department.
