The Colorado Avalanche beat the Stars 4-1, handing Dallas its first preseason loss of the year Saturday night in Denver.

The Avs rode a big three-goal third period to the win with Artturi Lehkonen, Zakhar Bardakov and Tristen Nielsen (empty netter) getting on the scoresheet in the final 20 minutes.

Avalanche forward Gavin Brindley opened the scoring after a fruitless first period. Brindley slid it into the net after Ivan Ivan won a tough battle in the trapezoid to find his teammate in the crease.

The Stars leveled things through forward Antonio Stranges who charged at net and fired a wrist shot that beat the Avs goaltender gloveside just before the end of the second period.
