New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers sustained an apparent leg injury in the second quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. He was carted off the field, and his return status is unclear.
Nabers was injured after jumping to attempt to catch a deep pass from quarterback Jaxson Dart. He was helped onto a cart and driven off the field with a towel over his face. The Giants were leading 10-3 at the time.
Dart also seems to be dealing with an apparent leg injury of his own. He spent much of the Giants’ last drive of the first half limping and grabbing at his left leg.
Nabers entered Sunday’s game with 32 catches for 251 yards (fourth among NFL receivers) through the first three games. Nabers was leading the Giants with two catches for 20 yards before he left the Chargers game and was a reliable target as the Giants turned to Dart, a rookie, as their new starter.
A quick mood change in N.Y.
What began as an exciting day for Giants fans looking toward the future turned grim with Nabers’ serious-looking leg injury. The offense was humming and Dart looked great, running into the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown. But all that changed with the deep attempt that Nabers tried to reel in before landing awkwardly.
To make matters worse, Dart seems to be dealing with something in his upper left leg, as he repeatedly grabbed it after plays and was visibly limping as he came off the field to end the first half. The Giants went into halftime with a 13-10 lead, which should be thrilling given the line on the game. But the mood is definitely subdued with Nabers’ injury and the status of Dart. — Charlotte Carroll, Giants beat writer
