An innocent bystander who was killed in a shooting on New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street was identified as a Chicago woman who was visiting to celebrate her birthday, police said.
The 33-year-old woman, who hadn’t been identified as of Sunday evening, was shot and killed at around 2 a.m., in the 100 block of Bourbon Street. Three others were injured in the shooting, which Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick called a “shootout” that began with a fight.
WDSU, the NBC affiliate in New Orleans, reported three people who were shot, a man and two women, were found near where the shooting occurred. A fourth person, a woman, was located approximately a block away.
The Chicago woman, who police identified as one of the victims, died at the scene from her injuries. The police superintendent said one of her siblings was among those injured in the shooting.
While police said it’s early in the investigation, it’s believed they have a person of interest.
