Success comes with a tax. Especially when it comes to drafting. The Oklahoma City Thunder experienced that firsthand this past offseason. An NBA championship roster filled with homegrown talent will cause the rest of the league to view their front office talent.

Acie Law IV reportedly left the Thunder for theĀ Brooklyn Nets. He was OKC’s Director of Amateur Scouting since 2022. On his new team, he advanced to the position of Director of Player Personnel.

Law IV was part of the Thunder’s post-draft press conferences with Sam Presti in 2023 and 2024. Before his front office role, he previously spent time as a coach and media analyst. He played at Texas A&M from 2003-07 before spending seven years in the NBA and overseas.

At his 2025-26 press conference, Sam Presti talked about Law IV’s role on the Thunder in the last three years. The latter joins Will Dawkins as OKC front office members who recently accompanied the general manager when they talked to the media after their drafts.

“I think he’s got an extremely bright future. I remember I saw him play one of the greatest college basketball games. It was against Texas. I was at the game because I was still working in San Antonio. Every time I see him, I always remember how great that game was,” Presti said. “But a class act, a professional, and he’ll help Brooklyn significantly. I’m excited to see how he does with them.”

In those drafts, the Thunder added Cason Wallace, Keyontae Johnson, Nikola Topic, Dillon Jones and Ajay Mitchell. A lot remains to be seen on how strong that haul is, but at the very least, they added a couple of high-end role players who contributed to a championship.

It shouldn’t be a shocker to see the Nets add somebody from the Thunder. They’re in the infancy stages of a rebuild. Egor Demin headlined the five players they added from the 2025 NBA draft class. It’ll be a lot of youth and development this upcoming season under head coach Jordi Fernandez.

That means they will surely pick high in the 2026 NBA draft. Law IV should help them with finding franchise cornerstones over the next handful of years.
