The person of interest in the deadly shooting at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has been identified as 34-year-old San Antonio native Keyran Jones, officials with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office told KENS 5. He has been charged with two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Jones was reportedly apprehended by Texas DPS troopers and Wilson County sheriff’s deputies after the troopers attempted a traffic stop at the Circle K in Stockdale at 7:43 a.m. Sunday morning.
“During the course of the pursuit, DPS troopers discharged their firearms in an attempt to stop the suspect’s vehicle near the Circle K in Stockdale,” Wilson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. “With a partially disabled vehicle the suspect continued to flee as DPS troopers joined by deputies from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office pursued him on SH 123 and then Eastbound onto FM 1347. The suspect was successfully taken into custody in the 10000 block of FM 1347 after a successful PIT maneuver and Taser deployment.”

One of two people who died in the shooting was identified by an Eagle Pass City official on Sunday afternoon.
Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez posted on social media that one of the victims in the shooting was Marcus “Mark” Antley. Valdez said Antley was a “beloved community member and retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.”
“Mr. Antley dedicated much of his life to public service and law enforcement,” Valdez said on Facebook. “He will be remembered not only for his career but also for his generosity, leadership, and the lasting friendships he built throughout Eagle Pass and the region. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many.”
The Mayor added prayers remain with the other individual, who has yet to be identified, who died in the shooting, and others who were injured. “We stand united in prayer with their families, asking God to bring healing, strength, and comfort during this painful time,” he wrote. “As Mayor, I reaffirm our commitment to support the victims, their families, and our entire community as we grieve together and begin the path toward healing.”
UPDATE: 9:01 a.m. September 28:
A person of interest “was apprehended” by the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to a statement from the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas.
“We are heartbroken about the violence that occurred at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino. Two individuals were killed, and we are aware of five more individuals who have been transferred to medical facilities in Eagle Pass and San Antonio,” the statement reads. “There is an ongoing investigation by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department, Texas Rangers and FBI. A warrant was issued for a person of interest, who was apprehended by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Wilson County.”
Wilson County is about 35 miles east of San Antonio. The statement adds the more information will be released as it becomes available. “We are grateful to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Pass Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol and Texas Department of Public Safety all of whom responded to this terrible incident,” the statement reads.

Two people have been killed and multiple others have been injured in a mass shooting at a Texas casino popular with San Antonians.
The shooting occurred at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino just past midnight at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 28. The Eagle Pass casino, near the Texas-Mexico border, was reportedly packed for a raffle event when the shooting started, reports shared.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another died en route to a hospital, reports shared. Somewhere between three and four other people were airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio in critical condition.
Police told reporters that the suspected shooter fled in a black Nissan truck and remains on the run. Deputies with the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the suspect, while Kickapoo Reservation police and Texas Rangers are assisting. As of 12:48 a.m. the Eagle Pass Police Department is instructing everyone to avoid the area.

“My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and all who have been affected. We are ensuring that those involved are receiving the necessary care and attention,” Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantu said in a news release. He added, “When is enough, enough? We must come together and put an end to the senseless gun violence that continues to plague our country and society. Maverick County deserves safety, peace, and unity-and we will keep fighting for it.”
Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez said in a statement: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic events that took place early this morning at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino. The news of one life lost and several others wounded has shaken our community, and I extend my most heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim. To all those injured, we send our prayers for strength, healing, and a full recovery.”
Despite being 150 miles away, the Lucky Eagle Casino is the closest legal gambling spot for San Antonio residents. One San Antonio local even won a $1.5 million jackpot there in 2018.
