AUSTIN — The Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement office will remain closed Monday in the aftermath of last week’s shooting at the site. The closure means migrant check-ins will not take place, an ICE spokesperson confirmed Sunday.
A new date for the check-ins has yet to be determined, the spokesperson said.
The shooting last week left one detainee dead and two in critical condition. The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. Joseph Rothrock, the FBI agent in charge of the Dallas field office, said the gunfire is being investigated as “an act of targeted violence.”
ICE had initially planned to reopen the Dallas office Monday and migrants who had previously scheduled check-ins for Thursday, Friday and Saturday were expected to appear Monday for their appointments.

Still, some migrants showed up Thursday morning for check-ins as they had not received any notification that their appointments had been postponed. They also feared consequences if they did not go to the office.
Check-ins are a regular part of ICE operations, and migrants show up to the Dallas ICE office to ensure they’re complying with terms of their release. The check-ins are used to keep track of migrants in and around North Texas.
Three detainees were shot Wednesday, but federal authorities have said the shooter, identified as Joshua Jahn, was targeting ICE agents, according to writings authorities discovered at his residence.
An official with the Department of Homeland Security identified the victims Saturday.
