Since the inception of his career, Marilyn Manson has been a polarizing figure in the music industry. However, it’s not just Manson’s look and sound that have led to public backlash.
Manson, 56, whose real name is Brian Warner, has faced multiple allegations of abuse since 2021. Actress Evan Rachel Wood was the first to publicly accuse him of grooming, coercion, and prolonged physical and emotional abuse. She was later joined by several other women, including Esmé Bianco and Ashley Morgan Smithline, with four women ultimately filing lawsuits accusing Manson of rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm.
After a year-long investigation by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the criminal case was dropped in January 2025 due to insufficient evidence to meet the legal burden of proof. Manson has consistently denied all allegations, calling them “false” and “horrible distortions of reality.” He also filed a defamation lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood, 37, which was dismissed in 2023.
Though Manson continues to perform and make music, his upcoming show on October 29 in Brighton, England, has been canceled due to extreme backlash and protests.
No Stage for Abusers, a prominent online campaign group, called on the Brighton Centre and Brighton and Hove City Council, which owns the venue, to cancel the concert.
Additionally, Green Party MP Siân Berry expressed her concerns about Manson’s presence.
Berry, 50, released a letter to the public, co-signed by a host of groups and the University of Sussex students’ union, writing, “Many survivors in Brighton and Hove, and organisations supporting them, will have serious concerns about this booking and its wider impact on other people visiting the city centre, local residents and the wider community.”
Since then, Ticketmaster has informed customers that the event will no longer proceed as planned and they will receive a refund.
A representative for Manson did not immediately respond to Parade’s request for comment.
