City leaders are facing the community this morning following the discovery of six bodies in Houston bayous over the past few weeks, aiming to address growing concerns and rumors among residents.
Council Member Letitia Plummer is hosting a meeting at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church on North MacGregor at 10 a.m., calling on city leaders and residents to come together, confront the issue, and discuss solutions to keep the area safe.
In the past few weeks, six bodies have been recovered from Houston’s extensive bayou system, which spans more than 25 hundred miles of waterways.
Of those, one has been identified as a University of Houston student, four remain unidentified, and another’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Recent fears of a serial killer prompted the mayor and police chief to publicly address the situation, urging the public that there is currently no evidence of foul play or any connection between the cases. Investigations into the deaths remain ongoing.
During the meeting, Council Member Plummer hopes to provide answers to residents’ concerns, discuss next steps for community safety, and focus on healing amid a difficult and unsettling situation.
KPRC 2 News will livestream the meeting in this article and provide updates throughout the day.
