The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is investigating a carnival ride malfunction that occurred on Friday at Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto High School in Pico-Union.. The incident took place during the school’s “Family Fun Day” event, where a ride known as The Zipper malfunctioned, causing some carriages to slam into each other.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but several riders were trapped for over an hour. According to ABC7, first responders arrived promptly to assist in freeing the trapped individuals.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles expressed gratitude that no one was hurt and thanked the first responders for their quick action. The event continued as planned, with various activities including food, live music, and a petting zoo. The malfunctioning ride was operated by a third party, and the Archdiocese emphasized the importance of safety at all their events.

Cal/OSHA’s Amusement Ride and Tramway Unit is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction.
