SAN ANTONIO – A suspect convicted of continuously sexually abusing a child will spend 40 years behind bars.

According to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Edward Garcia was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years in prison for the repeated sexual abuse of a child.

In a statement, officials say that after having endured several years of sexual abuse from the ages of 5 to 10, the victim made an outcry to her siblings about being sexually assaulted by the suspect.

Her brother immediately told their parents, who reported it to local authorities.

“Protecting children is at the core of our mission; we will continue to seek justice and give a voice to those most vulnerable,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Thanks to both our legal team and jury for their hard work and dedication, as it has reaffirmed our Office’s promise to protect the public from those who abuse their power.”

Edward Garcia will spend the next 40 years of his life in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
