Left-hander Omar Cruz completed five innings in his first win of the season on Sunday, propping up Triple-A El Paso for a 9-3 win over visiting Sugar Land.
Cruz (1-4, 5.62 ERA) began the season in the Padres bullpen but has been stretching out in the minors. Sunday was his second five-inning start this season. He struck out six and allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks.
Four relievers followed him into the game, with right-hander Francis Pena (4.15 ERA) striking out a batter in a scoreless frame and right-handers Alek Jacob (11.05 ERA), Jose Espada (4.32 ERA) and Eduarniel Nuñez (0.00 ERA) each striking out two in a scoreless frame.
Second baseman Clay Dungan (.837 OPS) drove in three runs on his 10th homer.
Catcher Luis Campusano (1.065 OPS) went 1-for-2 with a double, three walks and two runs scored.
First baseman Nate Mondou (.753 OPS) drove in three runs on two hits.
El Paso is 43-38.
