HOUSTON – A person is dead, and another has been seriously injured after crashing their car early Monday morning into a concrete base under a freeway sign, trapping the two of them inside.

The Houston Police Department says it happened around 3 a.m. on the North Freeway feeder road. It’s unclear what factors led up to the crash, but the driver crashed the vehicle into the concrete base under the Gulf Bank Road exit sign, trapping the driver and passenger inside.

The Houston Fire Department was able to extricate both occupants and rush them to the hospital, where we’re told one of them died from their injuries.

No additional information has been shared, and police shut down the feeder road for a couple of hours while their vehicular crimes division investigated the incident.
