ST. LUCIE COUNTY − A missing woman was found Oct. 2, two days after her Acura turned up nose down in a canal off Indrio Road in northern St. Lucie County, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

The discovery of a woman ultimately determined to be Jennifer Fisher, 53, of Jacksonville, came after a number of calls to 911 about 5:35 a.m. Oct. 2. The callers reported a naked woman in a ditch in the 4400 block of Johnston Road who appeared to be the woman in a missing person alert.

Sheriff’s officials on Oct. 1 asked for help in finding Fisher, the registered owner of a 2018 Acura found nose down Sept. 30 in a canal off Indrio Road, the agency stated.

Deputies were called about 12:10 p.m. Sept. 30 with a report of the Acura “in a canal or hanging off the canal bank” just west of Johnston Road near Interstate 95, Lt. Andrew Bolonka, sheriff’s spokesperson, has said.

The vehicle was perched at nearly a 90-degree angle off an access road parallel to Indrio Road into the canal.

In speaking with Fisher’s family, Bolonka has said investigators learned Fisher had a teal-colored electric bicycle in the back of her vehicle. Sheriff’s officials reported the electric bicycle wasn’t present in or around the Acura at the crash scene, which they stated suggested Fisher could have left and been traveling via the electric bicycle.

“During contact with deputies, Fisher was not forthcoming but did confirm she had crashed her vehicle, removed her clothing, and walked into the woods with the intent of staying there for several days,” sheriff’s officials stated Oct. 2. “When questioned about her reported E-Bike, Fisher advised that she did not have it with her. Her only complaint to deputies was irritation from fire ant bites.”

St. Lucie County Fire District crews took Fisher to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce for a medical evaluation.
