DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Houston County has another case of raccoon rabies, the second of the year.
Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed a raccoon found along Hodgesville Road tested positive for the disease.
The raccoon fought with a resident’s dog before it was taken for testing.
No human exposure is believed to have occurred.
Alabama state law requires all dogs and cats three months of age and older to be vaccinated against rabies.
In 2024, there was one rabid animal found in Houston County. ADPH said that the case also involved a raccoon.
