Registered voters in Los Angeles County will soon receive their vote-by-mail ballots ahead of the November special election.
LA voters have a choice of casting their votes in person or use the mail-in ballots to approve or reject Prop 50, a proposal to redraw California’s congressional districts in response to Texas’ redistricting plans. The ballot measure, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act, is backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom and leading Democrats as they argue California should “fight with fire” and counter partisan redistricting moves by the state of Texas.
Once the vote-by-mail ballots are filled out, voters can drop them off at over 400 official ballot drop boxes across the county or return via mail at least seven days before Election Day. They can also be dropped off at vote centers, starting Oct. 25.
See here for the locations of official ballot drop boxes and vote centers.
Voters who opt to mail in or drop off the ballots are urged to carefully follow the instructions by signing and dating the return envelopes before submitting them.
Once the ballots are dropped off or mailed, voters can track their ballots by using LA County’s tracking service.
The statewide special election will take place on Nov. 5. It is estimated over 5.6 million LA County residents are registered to vote.
