BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A new report released by Mental Health America, a nonprofit that collects mental health data, ranks Idaho 48th in the “State of Mental Health in America report.”

Data points collected include 17 different measures that make up the overall ranking. Some of those points include adults with any mental illness in the past year, adults with substance use disorder in the past year, adults with serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, youth with at least one major depressive episode in the past year, and more.

Each point is gathered across all 50 States and the District of Columbia. The number of occurrences and the subsequent access to care are then scored. Adults who needed but did not receive treatment, and adults reporting 14-plus mentally unhealthy days a month who could not see a doctor due to costs, are among the data points collected to determine access to care. Each data point is then assigned a numerical value; higher points indicate a higher number of mental illnesses with less access to care.

Idaho ranked number 48 on this list, followed only by Alabama, Arizona, and Nevada. New York ranked number one, followed by Hawaii, New Jersey, and Vermont. To see the full report, click here.
