MISSOULA, Mont. — Wildlife officials say an adult female grizzly bear and her two cubs were relocated to the Grassy Lake drainage, about a half-mile from Yellowstone National Park’s southern boundary, on Sept. 27.

The bears were captured near Dubois after being spotted close to residential areas, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Officials say the animals had not been involved in any conflicts but were moved preemptively in consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

Game and Fish says relocations follow state and federal regulations and are used as a management tool to minimize human-bear conflicts. Relocation sites are selected based on the bear’s age, sex, and behavior, as well as nearby human activity.
