A busy intersection in Jacksonville is set for significant improvements following the award of an $8.5 million contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The project aims to enhance traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Western Blvd. and Jacksonville Parkway, near the Cross Pointe Center and Gateway Plaza shopping centers. The planned upgrades include grading, drainage improvements, paving, and enhancements to the traffic signal system.

Barnhill Contracting Co. has been awarded the contract and can commence construction as soon as October 27.

The project is expected to be substantially complete, with the exception of planting, by summer 2027.
