Five people were shot early Sunday when gunfire broke out during an unauthorized block party attended by several hundred people in Jersey City.

Police were in the area responding to reports of a disorderly crowd and double-parked cars when they heard several gunshots around 1:50 a.m., Jersey City officials said in a release Monday.

Officers rushed to Bidwell and Ocean avenues, found one person lying in the street and gave immediate medical help.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical but stable condition, according to officials.

Police later discovered that individual was carrying a defaced firearm, hollow-point bullets and an extended magazine. They are now facing multiple weapons charges, authorities said.

Three other people were found nearby with gunshot wounds to the arms, legs or with graze wounds.

A fifth victim was driven to the hospital in a personal vehicle and was also listed in critical but stable condition, police reported.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no other information has been released.
